Viewpoint: Humanistic Geography and the Education for Human and Environmental Values
Abstract
Humanistic geography has not assumed so far any dominant role in geographic research. Becoming under attacks from various directions, humanistic geographers are still struggling to find their appropriate role within the discipline. Despite its weaknesses, however, there are certain valuable ingredients inherent in humanism which are overlooked by geographers. One such ingredient is the role humanistic geography can play in education for values. This essay reviews humanistic geography and criticism launched on it, and analyses its potential contribution to education for human and environmental values.References
